About The Event

Last updated: Thursday, 21 September, 2023 at 08:33pm

The Abingdon Marathon was first held in 1982 and 2023 will the 39th running of the race – unfortunately the 2007, 2020 and 2021 events had to be abandoned.

The marathon entry has grown over the years but has an entry limit of 1,200 again this year. We expect the event to sell out before the closing date, so make sure you enter early to avoid disappointment.

The 2023 Abingdon Marathon will incorporate the Oxfordshire County Marathon Championships.

The Abingdon Marathon course passes through the centre of Abingdon and the villages of Drayton, Milton and Sutton Courtenay as well as passing through the Milton Park business estate along the way.

The race is organised by a committee of volunteers from clubs across Oxfordshire. The organisation of a marathon is a considerable job, and as always the Committee is very grateful for the support of a considerable number of other local clubs and voluntary organisations, without whose assistance the race simply could not take place. More information about the volunteer organisations that will be supporting this year’s race can be found on the Volunteers page under the About section of this website.

In addition to putting on a first class event for the competitors, the organisers aim to support a number of local charities and the main beneficiaries over recent years have included Helen & Douglas House, Maggie’s Centres, SeeSaw, The Abingdon Bridge and The Archway Foundation.

Whether you are taking part as a runner, supporting your family or friends as they run the race, or just enjoying the spectacle and the enthusiasm of the day we hope it will be a day to remember.
